Luano's First Christmas
FRANCISCO LUANO
Angola
Polk Community College (FL)

Francisco Luano arrived in the United States in July 2007.  Luano endured a 40+ hour flight to the United States which was further complicated by VISA issues while trying to catch his connecting flight in South Africa.  After spending two months in San Luis Obispo studying at the California Coast Language Academy it was clear that Francisco had a severe problem with his eyesight.  Constant squinting and persistent headaches led to an immediate appointment with a local eye doctor.  Luano was diagnosed with severly damaged corneas and his vision was 20/70 at best.  Luano was fitted with temporary lenses while in California which improved his vision slightly however he was still struggling.

Upon Luano's arrival in the Boston Trinity family he was blessed with a gift from above.  Not only was he provided an outstanding support system of teachers, tutors, coaches and friends... it turns out that the only place in the world that treats his eye diseaseis located just 10 minutes from the Boston Campus.  Through a friend of the school, Luano received a prioritized appointment to the Boston Foundation for Sight (
www.bostonsight.org ).  This non-profit organization develped the Boston Scleral Lens which is the only lens that can correct the cornea problem that Francisco had.  After several consulations and fittings, Luano received the lenses and his vision is now 20/25... truly a miracle. Luano has a great support staff around him and Boston Trinity Academy has been an incredible blessing in his life and Francisco's life has changed forever.

Francisco is living the dream...

Francisco had a very good summer for the 1 Dreamers.  Impressing college coaches with his size and length, Luano is at the top of many recruiters wish lists.  Luano will be headed to Polk Community College in Florida where he will look to build upon his strength and explosiveness around the basket.
